Gresini sporting boss Michele Masini has broken his silence on the growing rumors of a move for Marc Marquez, saying after the race in India that they want to have the best rider available in the team.
Marquez finished third in the sprint race in India but missed out on a podium finish in Sunday's grand prix after running fourth and sliding out of a corner. He continued the race and made it to ninth place, but it seems that there is less and less chance that the eight-time world champion will decide to stay in the Honda camp.
At Gresini, where he will race alongside his brother Alex Marquez in 2024, he will be riding this year's motorcycle, one year older than the factory Ducati racers, but as Marco Bezzecchi proves, older equipment is no obstacle in the fight for victories and even the world championship title.
"Our goal is to hire the best racer," said Masini. "The aim of every sporting boss and team boss is to select the best driver available out of all the options available."
Ducati team boss Davide Tardozzi also spoke about the rumours: “Gresini has the right to choose the best rider available. If Marc is offered to them, it is their right and duty to consider the possibility of hiring him."
