Pierre Gasly was not penalized for his collision with Alpine team-mate Esteban Ocon at the Australian Grand Prix, avoiding a very likely ban from the next race due to accumulated penalty points.

Almost five hours after a long, chaotic race marked by a record number of red flag stoppages, the Frenchman was relieved, as he already has ten penalty points on his license, and at twelve he would have to miss the next race.

The commissioners decided that the collision was an incident in the first lap after the start, so they did not decide on a penalty.

Gasly's ban will continue to hang over his head until the end of the race for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, as the day after that, i.e. on Monday, May 22, his points will be erased for causing a collision with Lanc Stroll at the Spanish Grand Prix.

The stewards also rejected the Haas team's protest against the race results, which means that the order does not change.
