Formula 1 will test Hamilton's invention

The Formula One caravan will test a new system in Abu Dhabi called the Info Wing (roughly translated, data wings). It is an LED screen mounted on the car above the racer's head, which will show where the racer is driving. This will make it easier for spectators in the stands to watch the races, and from the stands it will also be possible to see on which tires the racer will drive and who set the fastest lap.

The system will receive data directly from the race management and was invented by Anthony Hamilton, the father and former manager of Lewis Hamilton.

The FIA ​​will initially test the system on Thursday or Friday on its safety car, and later, on Tuesday, when the two-day test will take place, on the Force Indie race cars.

“It’s a system that will keep viewers informed of the racer’s position, as well as some other information about the race,” Anthony explained. “One of the biggest problems of watching a race live is that you have to look away from what is happening on the track if you want to check which place a racer is driving. When you find the information that interests you, the car is over, and you yourself missed what was happening on the track. It may not work out at all. LED screens may not look good in sunny conditions, but it’s an idea that seems interesting.

I think it can have a big impact on watching races and testing and I hope it will help get more spectators, ”said Hamilton, who has already launched the process to patent the idea.

The screen, which will show even the first three letters of the racer's last name, and the current ranking, will be placed above the racer's head, so it will be necessary to change the TV camera mounts on the cars, which are already there. A prototype of the system will be tested in Abu Dhabi, and a newer version is already under construction for other racing series, such as DTM, IndyCar, NASCAR, as well as for karting and motorcycling.
