Lewis Hamilton has twice turned down an offer from Ferrari, which was joined last year by former boss Marco Mattiacci. According to the English Mirror Sport, he wants to get the two-time champion into the team in the 2016 season, and the new Scuderi boss, Maurizio Arrivabene, also wants the Briton in the red car.

But Hamilton is said to have kept the promise he made to Toto Wolff, the boss of Mercedes, and has not even started negotiations with the Italian team. Both Mercedes and Hamilton have agreed not to talk to others until they have finished negotiating with each other.

The 30-year-old Hamilton has said publicly that he wants to stay in Brackley and in the last days before the first race of the season in Melbourne he is expected to be just about to sign a contract. According to some, it is a five-year contract that is expected to expire near the end of the former McLaren's planned career, but sources close to the team claim that it will be a two-year contract, with the possibility of extension for another season, although the team will announce that it will be a “multi-year” contract.

At Ferrari, according to Mirror Sport, they want Hamilton to replace Finn Kimi Raikkonen, whose contract expires at the end of this season, and his credibility is expected to fall sharply after last season.

Ferrari is ready to offer Hamilton between 28 and 42 million euros, which would make him the highest paid racer in the caravan, so at least the previously mentioned English newspaper claims.
