Ferrari: Raikkonen’s departure is not to blame for the defeat at Monza

Ever since the race for the Italian Grand Prix, where the Ferrari season began to break, there have been speculations that the drop in form was due to the team's decision to say goodbye to Kimi Raikkonen and inform Finc just before the race. Raikkonen won the best starting position in the qualifiers on Saturday, and in the race, the Maranello racers fought each other in the first lap, helping Lewis Hamilton, with whom Sebastian Vettel collided and spun. Hamilton won the race, and since then the red race car has failed to compete with the Silver Arrows.

The official confirmation that Raikkonen is leaving the team at the end of the season has prompted theories that the Finn wanted to win for himself instead of helping Vettl, which was denied by team boss Maurizio Arrivabene, who points out that both racers are professionals and that the decision is not affected their racing. “Both Kimi and Sebastian are professionals, with years of experience,” Arrivabene said. “They are not some go-kart racers who have just started hanging out on the track. Rumors about the timing of the decision are mere guesses, but they are very disrespectful to both racers, who are great professionals. If Kimi responded to such news with the best starting position each time, it would pay to be passed on to him every weekend.

Regarding the form in Monza, we need to clarify two things. Kimi was always very fast in Spa and Monza, so that weekend he wanted to know how we decided on his future. Such a decision is better communicated to the racer the evening before the race on his friendly track, than before the race on a more difficult track. Ideally, we could communicate the decision to him during the summer break, but we were not ready at that time. Monza was followed by a race in Singapore, ”Arrivabene explained.
