Ferrari has extended a lucrative sponsorship deal with tobacco giant Philip Morris. The tobacco manufacturer has been working with Ferrari for more than forty years, and their cigarette brand Marlboro has been the team’s main sponsor since 1997. Their logo was last seen on race cars at the 2007 Chinese Grand Prix and was later banned due to a tobacco ban. products to remove. But the red-and-white combination, reminiscent of a box of Marlboro cigarettes, is still visible on race cars today.

Philip Morris is the only tobacco product manufacturer still engaged in Formula One, as despite the ban on direct advertising, it still successfully promotes its products in some areas.

Marlboro appeared in Formula One as early as 1972, when they sponsored BRM and Iso Marlboro, worked with McLarn between 1974 and 1996, and later began working with Ferrari as a so-called title sponsor.

In 2010, Ferrari and Marlboro were accused of indirect advertising due to a bar code on the hood of a race car engine, so the team from Maranello further adjusted the color scheme.

The collaboration between Philip Morris, however, has deepened further in recent years, as the current head of the Formula One team, Maurizio Arrivabene, previously served as Philip Morris ’chief marketing officer.
