Italian colleagues at the Gazzetta dello Sport report that Fernando Alonso was involved in a car accident near Lugano, Switzerland, when he was hit by a car while riding a bicycle. Initial findings unofficially show a broken jaw and other minor injuries, but the two-time F1 world champion is not thought to be in life-threatening condition.
Alonso had planned to return to Formula 1 this year with the Alpine F1 team, but it looks like he will have to miss the start of the season.
The news about the accident was also confirmed by the Alpine team, which issued a press release stating that the condition of the Spaniard will be known after additional examinations, but for now it is only known that he is conscious and feeling well.
