Pol Espargaro believes that Honda has taken a smart path in the development of its MotoGP motorcycle, as it must continue to follow the wishes of Marco Marquez.
Honda has been criticized in the past for its decision to develop the motorcycle for Marquez, which is why the rest of their racers don’t get the right feel. Their decision was particularly striking last year, when the Spaniard was injured and the team experienced one of the worst seasons in the MotoGP championship, but the Japanese remained convinced that their philosophy in recent seasons has brought more positive than bad.
Team boss Alberto Puig recently explained that Honda will continue to follow in the footsteps of the eight-time world champion, who, despite two missed races and problems with an injured arm, won the year and is Honda's best runner-up with two podium finishes.
Marquez's teammate Espargaro, however, agrees with the team's philosophy. “It’s completely obvious and understandable, you have to follow the fastest racer,” he said. “After all, Marc is the fastest, so they have to listen to him in the factory and develop the engine according to his wishes. If we listened more slowly, we would find ourselves in big trouble, so I think Honda's decision is very smart. ”
According to Espargaro, Honda is working hard to improve this year's motorcycle, highlighting the fact that the manufacturer is severely harmed by the development restrictions adopted due to the covid-19 virus pandemic. “Honda is already working on a motorcycle for next season.
