Andrea Dovizioso set a new record for the lap of the Twin Ring track in Motegi with a time of 1: 44.502, giving the Ducati team the first best starting position since 2010, when Casey Stoner started the race in Valencia from the best starting point.

It seemed to Valentin Rossi that he could be the fastest, but towards the end of the qualifications it turned out that his lap was not fast enough for the very top. In the last attempt, Doviziosu managed to get close to just 0.055 seconds, which was enough for second place.

Dani Pedrosa also jumped the best starting place, which smiled on him in the last fast lap, which the Spaniard did not finish. In turn no. The 12 fell, but its previous lap, which was a quarter of a second worse than the Ducati racer’s time, was enough for the first starting row, which thus consists of three different engine brands.

Marc Marquez will chase victory from fourth place tomorrow after falling behind by 0.02 seconds in the qualifiers for Pedrosa.

Jorge Lorenzo will start the race in fifth place, his qualifying time was 0.282 seconds worse than the best. In the second row was Andrea Iannone, who made good use of the extra soft rear tire.
