The director of F1, Stefano Domenicali believes that the dominance of Red Bull does not deter new viewers of Formula One from following the races, but at the same time warns that it is still too early to judge how this season will unfold.

"Congratulations to the team that is faster than the rest because they did their job better than the others," the Italian said at the F1 investors' meeting when asked if the FIA should step in and slow Red Bull down.

"It is the duty of the FIA to check the compliance of racing cars with the rules. If you look at the other teams, the differences between them are very, very small and I believe that due to the budget constraint, the situation will change and offer better competition. On the other hand, it is interesting to see that in new markets, where we are gaining new audiences, the dominance of one team does not play a big role. We are seeing a decline in interest from long-term viewers, and a more even competition is also important for us."

Domenicali says that the Red Bull team will have less and less advantage throughout the season, also at the expense of a penalty reduction of the permitted development in the wind tunnel, which will hold the team back until October. “Red Bull were very fast in the first three races, but I expect the others to catch them. We have to wait to see the effect of last year's wind tunnel work restriction penalty. The championship is long and I think that we will have nice surprises at the end."

And Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei says we have a lot of fierce battles on the track this year. "The history of F1 shows that many teams have had periods of dominance," he said. "Red Bull had it, Mercedes had it too. But looking behind the dominant team, we see a lot more overtaking and competition this year than ever before.”
