The tragic news of the death of 33-year-old Spaniard Marie de Villota shocked the public today. Maria suffered a serious accident while testing a Marussia car last year, in which she suffered severe head injuries. She accidentally recovered almost completely, but lost her right eye.

The former WTCC racer was found dead in a hotel room in Seville, where she was supposed to present her autobiography “La vida es un regalo” (Life is a gift), and on Monday she was supposed to be completely healthy.

De Villoto was allegedly found in a hotel room by her personal assistant Arancha, who was unable to wake her. “No drugs were found, and there were no signs of violence, so she most likely died a natural death,” explained Manuel Franco, a journalist with the Spanish newspaper AS.

Maria is said to be suffering from severe migraines after an almost fatal accident, and forensic experts will perform an autopsy in the coming days to find the cause of death of the promising racer.
