In mid-August, Lamborghini unveiled a new car called the Huracan LP 620-2 Super Tofeo, which will start competing in the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. This will replace the “old” Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, powered by a 570 horsepower engine. The Huracan engine has a celestial 620 horsepower and, with rear-wheel drive, belongs to the elite of supercars. In 2015, he will compete in all three Blancpain Super Trofeo series in Europe,
Asia and North America. Last week, team leaders and drivers in the North American series made statements and opinions about the new race car.

Kevin Conway, team leader and driver and last year's North American race champion, said: “My first impression of the new Huracan was quite a burst of enthusiasm, as given the level of Lamborghini and the quality of the car so far, this leap is a big improvement. This is a whole new generation of technology and capabilities for Lamborghini. I think the biggest difference between the Gallard and the Huracan is not only the carbon-aluminum chassis, but also the all-new gearbox, which is tailored just for this series of races. That I have the opportunity to drive this race car on the track and not only compete in the super trophy series but also with other brands around the world, this will be a completely new era for Squadra Corsa and Lamborghini motorsports. ”

Victor Gonzales, the driver in the North American series, said: “The new Huracan looks much more aggressive than the Gallardo and a more perfect race car. It already looks faster, even when not moving. According to the specifications I heard it will be very fast. It is a huge improvement and people will be very excited. I’m excited myself, too, even though I haven’t driven it yet. Personally, I prefer rear-wheel drive, as you have a lot more control; you can take away the understeer that a four-wheel drive car has. But a rear-wheel drive car will be more like a real car, as you can adapt it to your ride. The aerodynamics of the vehicle are also perfect and will produce more downward thrust. Just by looking at the car you can see that it is better made. The steering wheel is also different, the engine has more power and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. ”

Chris Mitcum, the owner of the team, said: “When I saw this car live, it was all it had to be. Having the perfect race car with all the racing components, rear-wheel drive, huge amounts of horsepower, the perfect racing gearbox and everything it has is an amazing feeling. I knew a new car was coming but it wasn’t until I saw it live that I was overwhelmed with excitement. With all-wheel drive, the driver must reprogram his brain before entering a turn. The idea of the Super Trophy, with this progress from Gallard to Huracan and later to GT3, is a great ladder of progress. It gives the driver the opportunity to progress, with the best "tools" there are. "

Cody Ware, the driver, also added his opinion: “I think the new car is absolutely wonderful. I think it will create even better racing next year with more horsepower and rear-wheel drive. It will be a much more racing car, as drivers will have to tame it a little more than the current Gallardo. The turns will still be cut but a little more carefully as the exit from the turns will also be different. And even more horsepower means the final speeds will be much faster, which means more interesting racing next year. ”

This year we have two more races ahead of us, from October 1st to 3rd in Road Atlatna, Petit Le Mans (North America), and on the weekend of November 22nd and 23rd in Sepang where the final race will take place.
