Car of the year 2014 - Škoda Octavia

Today I was behind the wheel of the Slovenian car of 2014, the third generation of the Škoda Octavia. Visually very attractive and attractive car that invites you to a seat that offers a lot of comfort and modern devices. The 1.6-liter diesel engine with 109 horsepower is just right powerful for a calm afternoon drive. There is also a 2.0-liter diesel engine that produces 150 horsepower, and 1.2-liter gasoline engines (86-105HP), 1.4-liter (140HP), and 1.8-liter (180HP).

This sedan is a competitor to the VW Golf and Seat Leon, but the car is so much bigger and longer that it could be a competitor to the VW Passat or even the Citroen C5. The interior of the vehicle is simple but very functional. The AUX and USB port on the radio make it easy to connect to a mobile phone or music player.

The steering wheel has all the buttons you need to drive smoothly. Change of radio stations, volume of music, change of programs on the control panel, all this even while driving around corners. Reversing sensors allow safe parking or turning, as the car starts to beep very pleasantly when you approach an obstacle. Independent parking is also a great addition, as you can allow the car to park on its own sideways at the touch of a button.

Despite the comfortable seating structure and the huge seating area, driving on the streets of Ljubljana is not exactly comfortable, as this is due to the excellent quality of our roads, and on the other hand, the suspension is quite hard. On the highway, the car performs great, but as with most cars, that sixth gear is missing, so it’s much better to take a 6-speed transmission. It will also take you far, as the Octavia has a very low consumption, ranging between 3.5 and 6.0 L / 100km.

The car is also the car of the year for a good reason, as the cost of use is minimal. The price of the vehicle also ranges between € 15.500 and € 29.000, depending of course on the type of engine and accessories, which is a good value for such a new vehicle.
