Germany's Auto motor und sport, after the FIA ruled that Ferrari's wing-reinforced rear-view mirrors mounted on the protective ring, is illegal, reports that Ferrari has found a way to circumvent the rules restricting the use of oil for improved combustion .

The Germans claim that they took advantage of the gray area in the Italian team and bypassed the rule stating that a race car can consume 100 liters of engine oil per 0.6 kilometers, otherwise intended for lubrication of mechanical parts. In Maranello, oil with additives for better combustion is to be supplied to the combustion chamber of the drive unit's cylinders via a turbine, to which an own oil supply is supposed to be conducted, which is not pumped from the engine, but its own stock. As part of the race weekend, Charlie Whiting visited Ferrari’s garage in person, but apparently found nothing controversial.

However, the journalist of the mentioned portal, Michael Schmidt Ferrari, also accused not only the exploitation of the gray area of rules, but also direct fraud, as he claims that the team of reds uses more energy from the hybrid system than the allowed four megajoules per lap. This is supposed to be achieved by bypassing the sensor that measures the energy released into the system with an additional output from the battery. Of course, these are serious allegations that the red race car would gain up to 20 horsepower in qualifying. The rules allow the racer to use up to an additional 120kW (or 163 horsepower) per lap, which, according to the Germans, also explains why Mercedes' so-called "party mode" mode of operation for the qualifiers is practically ineffective in the fight against Ferrari this year.
