Brundle: All teams play against budget constraints

Martin Brundle highlighted the fact that more or less all teams are playing around the budget limit, just as they play around with other rules.

The FIA released financial reports on Monday and found that the Williams and Aston Martin teams had committed an offense in the process of submitting the required documents for last year's budget, while the Red Bull Racing team had spent more than the 145 million allowed by the budget limit.

It was supposed to be a minor offense, i.e. up to five percent of the budget, or up to 7,5 million dollars, but unofficial data says that the budget was not exceeded by more than 2 million.

Former F1 racer and commentator Martin Brundle is convinced that teams, like this example with the technical rules, look for loopholes in the rules also in connection with the budget limit, and thus the interpretation of budget funds is different from team to team.

"We know that more or less all teams game the system to some extent with their interpretations, but it's quite incredible that this information came out during the Singapore race weekend," said Brundle. "Teams also gamed the system with a double diffuser and bendable front wings. That's just how Formula One is. But Red Bull exceeded the budget limit, there is talk of 2 million, unfortunately we do not get the exact figure, so we will have to wait. It's about reading the rules once to see what they say, then again to see how to get around them, in the sense of finding an advantage over the other nine competitors on the same piece of paddock and pit lane. Budgets definitely need to be limited, otherwise teams would spend five, six or seven hundred million per season. They would spend as much money as they could, because they were competitive "animals". But as long as the rules are clear and properly followed, and the penalties are clear and severe, the integrity of the sport will not suffer," Brundle is convinced.

The FIA can punish the Red Bull team with a wide range of penalties, from a public warning to the most severe, deducting points in the racing and constructors' championships.
