South African Brad Binder was the fastest in the first freestyle MotoGP training of this season in Qatar. The KTM racer completed the lap of the Losail racetrack in Doha in 1 minute 54.851 and overtook the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda) by a few hundredths. Nakagami was one of three Honda racers in the top five, with Spaniards Pol Espargaro and Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. The third time of training belonged to Suzuki racer, Alex Rins.
