Valtteri Bottas successfully turned his best starting position at the Turkish Grand Prix into a victory after leading the race almost all the time from start to finish. With second place, Max Verstappen won important points in the fight for the title, and another Red Bull racer, Sergio Perez, finished the race on the podium.

Lewis Hamilton, who started the race in 11th place due to a change of engine, tried to drive more than one set of tires for light rain on the track, which was wet throughout the race, but in the last laps he still had to stop, with to which he slipped to fifth place and thus scored 10 points, eight less than his title contender, Verstappna. The Dutchman is now in the overall standings, 6 races before the end of the season, ahead of Hamilton by six points.
