Valtteri Bottas, the fastest racer in the first two free practice sessions, will start the race for the UK Grand Prix five places lower than his qualifying ranking after having to replace a faulty gearbox on his race car.

This is the second transmission failure on a Mercedes race car after the same fate befell Finch's teammate Lewis Hamilton last weekend.

At Mercedes, they explained that Bottas' gearbox was damaged in the same way as Hamilton's and that they still tried to complete a series of six races with it, but they failed. They said they had discovered the cause of the problems and that they would not happen again.
