Ducati has confirmed that Alvaro Baustista will take part in the Sepang race as a wildcard rider at the end of the MotoGP season.
The race in Malaysia is scheduled between November 10 and 12, two weeks after the Superbike championship ends in Jerez.
The wildcard appearance is a reward for Bautista's success in the Superbike class last year, after he brought Ducati its first title since 2011. The Spaniard is well on his way to defending the title as well. There are still four race weekends until the end of the season, and the lead over second-placed Toprak Razgatlioglu is 74 points.
This year, he already tested last year's version of Ducati's MotoGP class motorcycle in Misano. Bautista is said to want to compete in Sepang, which is considered to be one of his favorite tracks, although at Ducati they were initially more inclined to compete in Valencia.
"I am very happy that I will be able to take part in a MotoGP class race again, at the track in Sepang, which suits me very well and is not on the Superbike calendar. I prepared very well for this occasion with the two tests in Misano. I would like to thank Ducati for the opportunity.”
"The race in Sepang is just a bonus for me and not a priority. This remains the Superbike class where we need to finish the job. We have busy days and weeks ahead of us, as we have a lot of races ahead of us in a very short period of time."
