Sauber boss Monisha Kaltenborn admitted that she did not expect such a big step forward from Ferrari's engine unit for this season. Namely, Ferrari seems to be the second best manufacturer of engines in Formula One, right behind Mercedes, which it came quite close to this year. Ferrari in particular has progressed over Renault, with some saying they have taken a step forward over the winter that should be worth somewhere around a second per lap, if not more.
Kaltenborn says: “They took a really big step forward, they did a fantastic job and we were pleasantly surprised. It's never all on the car, you have to arrange the whole chain, all the parts and put together the right package. ” Of course, it's not just wishes, but after last season, when Sauber didn't win any points, the team now surprises with Felipe Nasr after the first race, who won fifth place: “We made a big step forward, which is largely due to Ferrari. We didn't have the opportunity to do that last year, but this year we seem to be on the right track. "
Kaltenborn warns that this will not necessarily save the team, as they have been in a similar situation in the past and failed to gain sponsors: “In 2012 we achieved a good result in Australia, but then on Monday there were no sponsors who would like to support us. . So success is not necessarily also related to sponsors, it takes time. Anyway, with the result, we told people that we are back and that we can forget last season, which must not be repeated. We said we wanted to improve, we still want to, and we proved it. ”
