Numbers they do not always tell the truth. If we only took as a criterion time table test young racers v Abu Dhabi, then they should be fans Mick Schumacher already worried as he reached last place. But for the champion Formula 2 and his team Haas this is completely irrelevant because Mick he had on the track Yas Marina Tour different goals and not a quick lap time.

As the only team to take part in this test, he did Haas focused on only one car: for Mick Schumacher. It was his second appearance in this year’s race car Haas VF-20, he did the first one on Friday, December 11, at the free practice of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Young Schumacher he worked on the balance of the car in the morning and was mostly on the track with the middle C4 rubber compound. He did the afternoon longer distances, before the end of the day the car can be dressed in soft C5 rubber compound.

At Haas, they are thrilled with the work of Mick Schumacher, who exceeded the team’s expectations at a test of young racers in Abu Dhabi.

Compared to the first free practice Mick concretely improved. That’s when he reached the time 1: 41.235 minutes, but this time 1: 39.947 minutes. Mick Schumacher explains why it doesn’t matter to him that his time meant 15th place. “It was important for me to drive as many laps as possible and to deepen my understanding of tires. We have also achieved this. I feel good in the car and I am happy with my working day."

Mick Schumacher himself was also pleased with the work and with the fact that he learned a lot.

Ayao Komatsu, the team 's leading engineer Haas, commented with satisfaction: “It was our first full day with Mick. The focus was on getting to know the race car and the tires. One quick lap was not important to us at all. More importantly, Mick was able to learn something about the behavior of Pirelli tires and driving a race car with different amounts of fuel in the tank. Tire management will also play a big role in the 2021 races season, so the young racer needs to get to know this well. In doing so, the conditions in Abu Dhabi were ideal, as this was how Mick could feel how the behavior of the tires changed at different air and track temperatures. He experimented a lot with different setting options."

Haas team chief engineer Ayao Komatsu was also impressed with the young Schumacher’s approach to work and quick understanding and learning.

Japanese continues: “Mick drove 125 laps and we could see how well he was physically fit. He quickly understood our program and executed it perfectly. In addition, he made eleven start attempts from the Formula 2 pits. Overall, we are excited about working with Mick. His approach to work is exemplary, he listens very attentively and learns quickly. His progress in tire management is impressive. We're very happy with how this test day went with Mick,He added Komatsu.
