Vettel also got the second practice

Sebastian Vettel increased his advantage over his rivals in the second practice. With super-soft tires, he drove a lap of 1: 25.908, his teammate Mark Webber was second and was 0.264 seconds behind. Nico Rosberg, who stopped at the track with a broken gearbox towards the end of training, was third.

The second practice was awaited by clear weather, so the racers were able to try out the super soft tires. These allowed for faster times, and teams were able to find that the tires would last longer than indicated in the winter tests.

Lotus seems to have solved the reliability issues. Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean were fourth and fifth. Fernando Alonso finished sixth in training with the Ferrari F138. In the second Mercedes W04, Lewis Hamilton crashed into the sand along the track in the sixth turn and lightly touched the protective tires. The trip was allegedly caused by a damaged bottom of the car. The Briton had previously set a time that prevailed as the seventh best. Felipe Massa finished just behind the champion of the 2008 season. Adrian Sutil and Nico Hulkenberg finished in the top ten, and Jenson Button finished training behind them. At McLarn, they expressed concern about the uncompetitiveness of their car.
