Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Fernando Alonso's performance in the last two races of this season has been called into question after he suffered a back injury while driving over the curb at a race in Abu Dhabi.

Gazzetta claims that the Spaniard will receive the results of the examination he underwent in Spain earlier this week, and that his performance will then be decided by doctors at a special systematic examination, which is required by the FIA.

If their statements are true, the Spaniard will be the second racer to miss the last two races of this season due to a back injury, after Kimi Raikkonen announced surgery for his injured back for this Thursday and thus an early end to the season.

Alonso wrote on his twitter account that he is leaving for Austin with some pain and in the hope that he will be able to help his team.

In the event that a Ferrari racer is not allowed to race, he will probably be replaced in the race car by Jules Bianchi, whose career is supported by the Ferrari team. Bianchi is expected to have the option to terminate his contract with Marussia if they need him at Maranello. Ferrari's second choice is said to be veteran Pedro de la Rosa.
