Fernando Alonso revealed just before the start of the 2023 season that he broke bones in both hands in a crash in the final qualifying session in Australia last year, and then sat out the next four races injured.

Alonso, who switched from Alpine to Aston Martin this year, said he was still feeling the injury until August. "I didn't recover until August. I drove in pain the whole time," said the two-time world champion.

The Spaniard's team-mate, Lance Stroll, was forced to miss winter testing due to a cycling accident in which he broke both wrists, but he will compete in the opening race of the season with screws and plates inserted in his wrist.
