Fernando Alonso is convinced that he can reach the first two places in the qualifications for the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Spaniard says that the F138 race car corresponds to the track in Sepang, whether it is dry or wet. The Ferrari racer said that a small mistake in the settings stopped him from an even better lap, but he remains convinced that he can fight for the highest places in the qualifications.

“The car worked well in all conditions today, which is very good news for us. This track is more melodious than the one in Australia, so it was important to find out today if the positive impression from the winter tests is genuine or just an illusion. I didn't have the right balance in my lap on medium hard tires, otherwise I could have improved the time, just like I did on hard tires. ”

Alonso explained that it will be crucial to find the right balance between qualifying settings and racing, as tire degradation is a big problem here as well. “We will probably see more stops in the race, so perhaps the advantage will be the car that will perform better in the race than in qualifying. However, tomorrow we will try to reach one of the places in the front row, because, as usual, the key to a successful race is a good start, good tactics and stops. ”
