Fernando Alonso believes the Mercedes racers will be the favorites to win next weekend at the Monaco race.
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have started the last three races in a row with the best starting position, and the pole position is worth much more on the streets of Monaco, where there is not much room to overtake.
“They will be favorites,” Alonso said after winning in front of home spectators in Spain. “In the last three races, they stood on the pole. It’s harder to overtake in Monaco, so they’ll probably be able to keep better places longer. ”
Alonso also attributes a lot of possibilities to himself. “If we look at the last three seasons, they were almost always on the podium, even when we weren’t competitive. This is also my goal this year. I remember the 2011 season when we were a full lap behind McLarni and Red Bull in Spain, and then we almost won in Monaco. We fought for the victory and I see no reason why we should not fight for the best places in Monte Carlo with this race car that is competitive everywhere. ”
Fernando Alonso is in third place after the home victory in the overall standings, thirteen points behind Kimi Raikkonen and four more behind Sebastian Vettl.
