After the first kilometers in the AMR22, Fernando Alonso was delighted with the decision to switch to the Aston Martin team. The Spaniard sat behind the wheel of the Aston Martin AMR2023, which did not wear sponsor markings due to contractual obligations, just two days after the race as an Alpine driver today, when tire tests for the 22 season took place in Abu Dhabi.
The two-time world champion drove 97 laps in five hours, then handed over the steering wheel to his future teammate Lanc Stroll.
"I'm really happy," he said. "I shouldn't be too confident, because the car will be completely different for next season, but in the garage I got the feeling among the mechanics that these are very talented people and that the team has great potential. I am extremely excited right now. It's only day one, but the energy of the team is palpable. I can't wait for next year, because I felt a very special atmosphere in the team."
The Spaniard said that after a large number of laps in the car, he felt some pain due to the uncomfortable seat. "First we have to fix the seat, because I feel pain all over my body. We crammed 97 laps into the morning, which is quite extreme. I will talk to the team later and tell them all about my feelings. It's a few little things, mostly related to comfort, such as downshifts, driving in the pit lane, messages, notifications on the steering wheel and things like that.”
