National rally champion Aleks Humar will compete with the brand new Renault Clio R3T this season. The assembly of the car, which, unlike its predecessor, is characterized by a 1,6-liter turbocharged engine, is coming to an end after almost 150 hours. Humar and his co-driver Florjan Rus are expected to start the season at the San Remo Rally in Italy.

Aleks Humar received all the components for the new Renault Clio R3T on January 10, on his birthday. Since then, he has spent a lot of time in his workshop in Slap na Idrijci, as he had to sort hundreds of parts and start assembling them into a final whole. From January 9 to February 9 alone, the assembly of the new fast car took Humar 135 working hours. Humar says that the work is going without major complications and that the instructions from Renault Sport are true for now. So far, he has made eight racing cars in a similar way, and this time he is assembling it for the first time without time constraints. Therefore, he can pay more attention to all the little things, because right now the right foundation is being made for his clio.

“I expect a significant difference compared to last year's clio. It is less than ten centimeters longer, and the turbocharged engine brings the most changes. Last year's clio was developed in 2006, and this one in 2013, and this brings great progress in many areas. The first impressions of the other racers were very good. The Clio is supposed to be calmer than the adapter. I will be able to say the most when I will be able to drive the first kilometers myself. The turbocharged engine delivers much more torque. Last year, I drove the clio engine up to 8.500 rpm, and with the new one, the revs will be almost half as low. Because of the torque, the car should also have a bit more steering, ”says Humar.

Although the racing plans for this season have not yet been fully outlined, Humar and his co-driver Florjan Rus are most tempted by one of the national or European Renault Cups for the new R3T clies. The Slovenian national champions are still waiting for the English version of the rules and the clarification of all details. The outline plan is that Humar and Rus will drive the new clio for the first time in April at the famous San Remo Rally in Italy, and for now, it is not excluded that they will take part in one of the Italian rallies in March.
