Racing legends, Agostini, Biaggi and Lucchinelli are convinced that Italian racing is in good hands, despite the fact that the era of Valentino Rossi is coming to an end.

After an exciting weekend in Misano, where Fabio Quartararo won his first title, we are only two races apart by the end of the season. A race where fans will have one last chance to say goodbye to Valentino Rossi live. Undoubtedly, the retirement of the nine-time world champion will be a big loss for the sport. Despite the big gap, there is no need to fear for the future of Italian racing. This is the opinion of some of the biggest names in Italian motorcycling, Giacomo Agostini, Max Biaggi and Marco Lucchinelli.

Francesco Bagnaia did lose the title battle against Quartararo this year, but his performances this year along with Eneo Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli have caught the attention of three legends.

“Bagnaia is in exceptional form. His ride is currently close to perfection. His fall on Sunday really surprised me, but when you drive completely at the limit like he did, he can get stuck, ”he told Agostini in a recent interview for La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“After the race in Aragon, I personally congratulated him. You can only imagine how challenging it is when even the race is completely behind your collar breathing racer blacksmith Marc Marquez. However, he did not make a single mistake. He is a very good racer both on and off the track. He is a more serious type of person, not as sociable as Rossi, for example. We are quite similar in this respect. ”

“I am also looking forward to the return of Morbidelli. Last year, he was extremely competitive in the satellite team. It can be seen that he is not in the best shape after the injury. There is no question of his talent. At the moment, I see it a bit for Bagnaia, which has something more in this period. ”

"As far as Bastianini is concerned, I can say that it is developing in the right direction. On the two-year-old motorcycle, he showed great progress, especially in the second part of the season. It's a pleasure to follow. ”

Biaggi agrees with Agostini

Biaggi is also of the opinion that Bagnaia is currently in the best position to bring Italy the title of world champion.

“Everyone is very good. But if I had to answer at this point I would bet on Bagnaio. But the position of ss can change quickly. Let’s just remember last season and Morbidelli’s second place, which didn’t even have the best Yamaha equipment available. I think he will have very good chances when he fully recovers, also against Bagnaia and Ducati, which are very fast. ”

“Of the three mentioned, Bastianini is currently in the worst position, as he will not have the technical means compared to them. Nevertheless, he impressed me the most this year. Misano is a track he knows very well, but fourth place in Austin is no coincidence. He already impressed in the Moto 2 class, but now he is only confirming his qualities. ”

Lucchinelli: There can be a positive rivalry

Lucchinelli, on the other hand, is of the opinion that it is difficult to predict which of the three will be the most successful. Competition between them could lead to a positive rivalry on the track.

“I could almost say it’s a shame because everyone is so good. If three Italians collide with each other, there can be problems. It is too early to talk about who is the best. Bagnaia was already fighting for the title in his first season on the factory team. ”

“Morbidelli has already shown exceptional rides with a year-old motorcycle. Enea has the oldest Ducati, yet it is always among the best. He is also very consistent and never complains. ”

“To be fair, none of them. This is mostly typical of young racers. Mostly the elderly complain. He is the only one who is not Marquez, so I especially respect him. ”
