Maverick Vinales set the fastest time (1:39.207) of the first free practice in Argentina. Teammate Aleix Espargaro managed to get the closest to him with second place.

Jorge Martin set the third time ahead of Takaaki Nakagami and Alex Marquez.

Johann Zarco finished in sixth place ahead of Luco Marini and Franco Morbidelli, who this time was somewhat surprisingly better than teammate Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman only set the fifteenth time and is thus in danger of appearing in a slower qualifying group, as rain is forecast for the second training session.

Marco Bezzecchi and Francesco Bagnaia completed the top ten.

The results:

Franco Morbidelli started the training session the fastest, setting a time of 1:41.048, and then the two Aprilia racers were the first to go below the 1:41 mark. Vinales was slightly faster than Espargaro.

After fifteen minutes, Takaaki Nakagami took the top spot with a time of 1:40.647. The Japanese led practice for about ten minutes before a number of racers bettered his time in their second attempts.

Fifteen minutes before the end, Alex Rins was the first to fall in the first turn today.

Marco Bezzecchi was the first to drop under 1:40 seven minutes before the end.

In the last five minutes, all racers set fast times, as there is a high chance of rain for the second practice.
