Max Verstappen easily converted the best starting position at the Mexican Grand Prix into his fourteenth victory of the year, his 34th in F1, setting a new record for the number of wins in a season. Lewis Hamilton and the local hero, Sergio Perez, finished on the podium of a very calm race, which after the resignation of Fernando Alonso due to an engine failure, was additionally calmed down by the virtual safety car for a short time, next to the Dutchman with a gap of almost fifteen seconds.

They were followed by George Russell, Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo, almost a minute behind Verstappen. The Australian at the wheel of the McLaren race car caused a collision with Yuki Tsunoda, for which he was penalized with a 10-second penalty, but he had enough of an advantage that even after the penalties were added he did not lose the place. Esteban Ocon was eighth, and the last points were won by Lando Norris and Valtteri Bottas.
