The FIA has rejected Ferrari's request to review the penalty awarded to Carlos Sainz by F1 stewards for his collision with Fernando Alonso at the Australian Grand Prix

Sainz hit Alonso on the last restart and was penalized with a five-second penalty, which dropped him from fourth to twelfth place, and the team from Maranello decided to appeal against the penalty, as the stewards did not take into account the driver's or the team's statement when making the decision.

But the FIA rejected the request to review the penalty, as in their opinion the statement of the team and the driver does not contain important information that could influence the decision. According to the commissioners, the Ferrari driver is entirely to blame for the collision with another driver, as he should have had enough space to avoid the collision.

Ferrari submitted telemetry data from Sainz's car, Sainz's statement and other drivers' statements in the request for review, citing the example of Force Indie, which managed to overturn the penalty Sergio Perez received at the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix.

At Ferrari, they are disappointed with the decision of the FIA, as they believe that they have provided enough new details for the commissioners to reconsider their decision, but they respect the decision, and in the future they want to work with the FIO to improve decisions in such situations, so that only those who are as consistent and fair as possible to everyone.
