Sainz regrets the missed opportunity: He could have won

Carlos Sainz was a bit disappointed after finishing fifth in the race in Miami. The Spaniard is convinced that victory was within reach.

For the first time in his career, Lando Norris was looking forward to the victory, which ensured that the Red Bull team remained without a victory for the second time this year in the sixth race of the season (last year, it happened to them only once).

Carlos Sainz will certainly not keep the race in Miami in the best memory. He crossed the finish line in fourth place, but after a collision with Oscar Piastri, he was penalized with a five-second penalty and thus finished in fifth place. After the race, he regretted the wasted opportunity, believing that with a little luck he could have even won.

"I managed a good start. I was in second place braking into the first turn and then Sergio Perez came in like a torpedo. It was a very foolish maneuver. It was a little short, but me, him and Charles would finish the race quickly. Because I backed away from him, I lost a few positions. In the rest, I had a very good pace."

"If I had changed tires a lap later, when the safety car had entered the track, I would have won the race. Lando did it, and I was ahead of him by then. I'm a bit disappointed about that.”

Nevertheless, the Spaniard was happy that the victory went to his good friend and former teammate Lando Norris.

"He has been doing an extremely good job for many years. He was close several times, but things didn't work out for him. Today is his day. I was lucky, but you have to earn it."
