Esteban Ocon said he can be satisfied at the end of the 2022 season, having collected more points than team rival Fernando Alonso. In 21 seasons in F1, of all Alonso's teammates, only Jenson Button managed such a feat in the 2015 season, when he and McLaren Mp4-30 collected 16 and 11 points.
"The feeling is really good, Fernando is a very, very fast racer," said Ocon. "I had to show everything I know to be able to finish the season ahead of him and I'm really happy that I did it. The only thing I missed this season was a podium finish. But they come in different circumstances, which this year, unlike last year, did not exist, but I hope that we will receive them next year."
Alonso, who will already test on Tuesday with the Aston Martin racing car, where he is moving to in the 2023 season, finished the race in Abu Dhabi with his resignation, already the sixth this year. Ocon, who retired only twice this year, managed to finish the race in seventh place, which ensured Alpine team fourth place in the Constructors' Championship classification. "I'm happy with today's result," he said after the race. "If I had another lap to spare, maybe we could have passed Lando (Norris), but that doesn't matter.
We achieved all the goals we set ourselves and finished the championship in fourth place. This weekend I lost two and a half kilograms of body weight due to focus and stress, and in terms of points I can say that this has been my best season so far. I am very satisfied with this, and all praises also to the team, which diligently developed the car during the season. I hope that next year we will be even less behind the leaders."
