The Mercedes team faces a penalty for a three-day test they conducted with Pirelli last month. The umbrella organization of Formula One, the FIA, has referred the case to an international tribunal, where a more extensive investigation will be conducted.

The Ferrari and Red Bull teams learned in Monaco that Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg had done around 1000 kilometers of testing with their cars this year after the Spanish Grand Prix, so they filed an official protest against the Mercedes team. For Pirelli, they tested the tires for next season, as well as this year, and there were also rumors that new suspension parts and a new gearbox were found on the car.

The situation is extremely unfavorable for Mercedes, as the team of the German car manufacturer has not fought at the desired level since 2010, when they returned to Formula One as an independent team, and this year Nico Rosberg showed excellent form and won the last three races. the best starting positions and won the race in Monaco.

If the international court rules that the Silver Arrows team violated the Formula One sports rules, which prohibit testing with the current car during the season, it could face a number of penalties, ranging from a hefty fine, deprivation of points, and exclusion from this year's championship.

The Ferrari team also did a similar test with Pirelli in April, but according to the rules, they used a two-year-old car.
