Charles Leclerc will start his home race in Monaco from sixth place after being penalized by stewards for impeding Lando Norris in the latter part of qualifying.

The Ferrari driver would otherwise chase victory on home soil from the second starting row, as he was third in qualifying, but now due to the penalty for obstruction in the tunnel, he will have Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso in front of him at the start, as well as Esteban Ocon, Carlos Sainz, and Lewis Hamilton.

The commissioners commented on the punishment that the majority of the blame for the obstruction was on the side of the team, which did not inform its driver about the approaching car.
