Lewis Hamilton believes that by finishing fifth in the race in Australia, he has managed to silence those who have criticized his move to Mercedes. “It’s nice to show people that they were wrong,” the Briton told the Daily Telegraph. “Everyone, especially former racers, said that switching to Mercedes was the worst decision of my career. They said we would be nowhere. Then they began to oppose themselves. They don’t know what they’re talking about. Sometimes they say so, other times differently, and the truth is somewhere in between.

We never said we would beat everyone, nor did we say we would be bad. The team did well. I am very proud of them. I am also proud of my decision, ”said Hamilton.

“None of us expected much in the beginning. I admit we could have done better as we had every chance. But our understanding of the tires improved as we tested them thoroughly during the race. We will be much better in the next race. We have a good basis for further development. I am really happy with my first result. 10 points can be our foundation. Everyone underestimated us, but I hope this is the beginning of better times. ”
