Sebastian Vettel achieved his 46th career victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, increasing his advantage in the World Cup to 14 points before the summer break. Ferrari's team success was complemented by Kimi Raikkonen, who was faster than his teammate for most of the race, but on the closed track Hungaroring wanted to stay in second place, and protect Vettl's back from Valtteri Bottas and later Lewis Hamilton.

Third was Bottas at the end, who dropped past Hamilton in the 52nd lap so he could try to beat at least one of the Ferraris. As the Briton was unsuccessful in this, he slowed down in the last bend of the last lap and dropped Bottas back to third place, finishing himself fourth.

The fastest lap in the race was taken by Fernando Alonso, who finished in an excellent sixth place. Fifth was Max Verstappen, who eliminated teammate Daniel Ricciard from the race in the second corner of the first lap and was penalized for it, for the first time in his career as a Formula One racer. The Dutchman had to serve a ten-second penalty at the stop.

Seventh was Carlos Sainz, who battled Alonso in the first laps of the race, Sergio Perez was eighth ahead of teammate Esteban Ocon, and tenth was Stoffel Vandoorne, who brought even more joy to the McLaren Honda camp.

Formula One is now going on a summer break. The next race will not be until August 27, in Belgium.
