Audi confirmed in August last year that it would join the caravan when the new Formula One power units are introduced in the 2026 season. This was followed by the news that it will be a takeover of the Swiss team Sauber, which is still competing under the name Alfa Romeo this year, with a gradual buyout. Now Sauber has confirmed that the German manufacturer has bought a minority stake "in accordance with plans".
Audi will use the team factory in Hinwil, but for the purpose of developing power units, they are expanding their factory in Neuberg, where they once developed power units for the World Endurance Championship.
Sauber will compete in F1 as Alfa Romeo until the end of next season, after which it will compete under its own name and use Ferrari power units until 2025, before the team will become the factory Audi F1 team the following year.
